H5N1

According to Avian Flu Diary, Cambodia’s Ministry of Health has confirmed its 15th human H5N1 case of 2025, involving a 6-year-old girl from Takeo province who was exposed to sick or dead chickens at home. She is currently in intensive care. 

U.S.

As of August 12, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports has not reported any cases of person-to-person transmission of H5N1 in the United States. The total remains at 70 confirmed cases and one death.

 

MPOX

Africa

Sierra Leone: No new updates since July 27, 2025, where Sierra Leone reported 5,072 confirmed mpox cases, according to the World Health Organization. This is a surge, with 987 cases added since June 29.

Uganda: As of August 3, 2025, Uganda reported 5,879 confirmed mpox cases, according to the World Health Organization. This is an increase of 562 cases since June 29. 

 

MEASLES

U.S.

As of August 6, 2025, Center for Disease Control reports a total of 1,356 confirmed measles cases in the U.S. in 2025. 13 % of cases have required hospitalization (171 cases of 1,356), and three deaths have been reported. 
 

As of August 5, 2025, the Texas Department of State Health Services reports 762 measles cases this year - an increase of 5 since July 1. 

Canada.

As of August 11, 2025, Canada has reported 4,548 measles cases, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada. Ontario accounts for 52% of the total, followed by Alberta with 37%. Of the total, 1,352 cases (30%) occurred in adults aged 18 and over. In all, 88% were unvaccinated, and 7% required hospitalization. Genotype D8 remains the most frequently detected strain. 1 death has been reported. 

 

POLIO

As of August 6, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative reports eight new cVDPV2-positive environmental samples in Germany; one from Baden, three from Bayern, one from Rheinland, and three from Sachsen. This brings the total for 2025 to 11. 

Elsewhere, Pakistan has reported one WPV1 case, Afghanistan four WPV1-positive environmental samples, Israel six cVDPV1-positive environmental samples, and in Africa, Chad and Nigeria have each reported one cVDPV2 case.
